Books + projects

I've worked as a writer, editor and cultural collaborator for cultural and arts organizations in the U.S. and Asia. My latest project was contributing to the book 'Creating Across Cultures'—more info below!

Creating Across Cultures: Women in the Arts from China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan

Picture
I contributed three chapters to this incredible book, which was launched in June 2017 in the US. Christopher Merrill has called the book “an indispensable resource for anyone seeking to understand the dynamism underpinning what some are calling the Chinese Century.” Evan Osnos calls it "a magnificent book" and the poet Sarah Howe calls it "a triumph of feminist documentary."

Song Dong: 36 Calendars

Picture
This project was just amazing. I worked closely with the team at Asia Art Archive, to help copy edit the English translation of Song Dong's vast 36 Calendars project. Song Dong is one of the most influential and astonishing Chinese contemporary artists, who has a strong spiritual aspect and a remarkable social conscience. Read his re-writing of the past 36 years of Chinese art history here.

Asia Art Archive
Asia-wide

Picture
With research posts in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan, the Asia Art Archive has collated one of the most valuable collections of material on contemporary art in the region. I have worked on various projects with the AAA, helping to edit the catalog for their annual auctions and doing editing work for projects such as Materials of the Future: Documenting Chinese Contemporary Art from 1980-1990. Check them out here.

Yaji
Portland, USA

Picture
I helped to set up Yaji, an arts series in Portland, ME, that focused on East-West collisions in art, culture and thinking. I also built cross-cultural connections for arts colleges in the US with Suzanne Fox. One of our clients was Maine College of Art (MECA). I helped to build two partnerships for the college - with Hong Kong's Academy of Visual Arts at Baptist University and Xi'An Academy of Fine Arts (Xi'An). Exchange students are now moving between the schools and departments are launching exchange arts projects.

Observation Society
Guangzhou, China

Picture
I had the luck of working as an editor for the talented Chinese arts writer and researcher, Anthony Yung for a few years, both on his projects both with Observation Society, and with the novelist and poet, Hu Fang. More info on Observation Society here.
